Fabulous Pollard Oak Billiard Snooker table circa 1860

This fabulous full size Billiard Snooker table was made circa 1860 from exquisite cuts of Pollard Oak , it is a rare find and the only pollard oak billiard table we have ever owned.

Standing on eight turned octagonal legs with an arched panelled recess, the cushion sides are fitted with oak bosses.

Made circa 1860 for Charles Philip Yorke, The 5th Earl of Hardwicke (23 April 1836 – 18 May 1897) and nicknamed Champagne Charlie for his love of the high life, a British aristocrat, Conservative politician and dandy.

The table is in outstanding original condition and the timber quality is breathtaking.

The table bears a plaque on one end which says "Earl of Hardwicke"

Provenance
The 5th Earl of Hardwicke was an inveterate gambler, in the social circle of the Prince of Wales and was known as 'Champagne Charlie'. He amassed huge debts with the Agar-Robartes Bank, and he was forced to put the Wimpole Estate up for sale by auction in 1891.

The table was sold at auction and removed to a private residence from where it was purchased by us.
